Sweet Storm stays with you like the freshness following a summer cloudburst.”
The New York Times
“In the style of early Mamet, the conversation is lyrical, angry, far-reaching, and deep. This show is largely about surprise, not the least of which is the beauty and originality of the script and the unusual precision and abandon of the two actors, under the direction of Padraic Lillis.”
The New Yorker
“There’s not much else in New York that looks and talks like Sweet Storm!”
Variety
“A genuine, honest-to-God love story!”
Theatermania
“Two fetching performances breathe indelible life into Scott Hudson’s evocative Sweet Storm.”
Backstage (Critic’s Pick)
“This sweet love story has a refreshing power… reminiscent of the light romance in William Inge’s Bus Stop
Curtain Up
“Really, when is the last time you heard people in a jaded New York audience sigh ‘awww’ all together under their breath… and mean it! Jamie Dunn and Eric T. Miller are both exceptional!”

In 1960 Florida, Ruthie and Bo, two young newlyweds, enter their honeymoon suite in the sky, a tree house. A romantic gesture from the young groom to his wife. Yet Bo’s expectations of living happily ever after in the sky are soon grounded by Ruthie’s realization that marriage comes with many unforeseen — and frightening — challenges. The two lovers struggle to fortify themselves against forces both inside and outside the tree house. A new play from Scott Hudson, Sweet Storm is a funny, powerful, and intimate love story that challenges our perceptions of marriage, faith, and love. Padraic Lillis, director of the Public LAB workshop production of Sweet Storm and Alchemy’s production of Umbrella, returns to create the premiere production of a love story that will both deeply touch and challenge you. Produced in association with LAByrinth Theater Company.
